Through this piece, I aim to spread a message of hope. I begin with something personal to me—my name—Nadia. A name with Slavic origins, Nadia literally translates to “hope”. I then created a grid-based typeface, which borrows from the fractal pattern technique of Batik, a cloth-dyeing tradition from my native Indonesia. Batik patterns are traditionally developed with specific symbols and meanings; each unique piece carries with it a message and wish to the wearer. For me, my name serves as a constant reminder to persevere. In similar fashion, I seek to bring hope to others and therefore I am creating this memento. If ever in doubt, contact me for a boost of hope.
